So, the Readers Digest version of this,is that I have a chipmunk that I've pulled from the (feline) jaws of death. He (or she. dunno) has been rescued 3 times today, by me. He was brought into the house this morning, by the little ones. I got him out, and took him back to the woods. I found him again being worried by the cats, and again got him safely back to the woods. About 1 1/2 hours ago, I found him, (seemingly) dead on the hallway floor. He took a big lungful of air, and I put him in an empty tissue box. I've put a jar-lid of water and some walnuts in with him, as well as my Eye of Buddha mantra stone, and the printed mantra for the time of death. He was very cold, and I got him warmed up in the sun. He's still in the tissue box, but I've got that inside a cat carrier. For his protection, as well as containment. He seems to be perking up, and I hope to release him back to his home within a day or so.
Anyways, I'm asking for any prayers and/or mantras for his benefit. Thanks, folks.

Oh bless him!

And bless you too for caring about another living being - there is nothing greater than kindness towards others is there?

Thanks, guys. He seems to be doing pretty well. I got a hard-sided carrier from my mom to put his tissue box into, as it would be safer for him. (9 cats in the house, after all.) I got him some unsalted peanuts in the shell, last night. He was pretty perky last night when I got home from work, and this morning seems to be doing very well.
I'm hoping to release him either tonight, after work, if I get home in time, or tomorrow morning.
Thanks again for your support for him. Very Happy I did the Tara mantra to him, and Om mani pema hung. And I named him Lhamo, for the duration of his time with me.
Hopefully, when I put him back out with his kindred, he'll make better decisions in re the cats. Laughing

Hopefully this is the final update. I got off work in time, today, and took Lhamo out to an appropriate spot, and turned him loose. He took a bit of encouraging, but came shooting out of the carrier, and bounced around a bit, among the saplings, chittering the whole time. He then got onto a large-ish tree, and up it he went. He seems in good shape, and enjoyed his walnuts and peanuts.
I washed the Eye of Buddha stone, and have to wash out the carrier yet. But so far, it seems to be a successful rescue and release.
Thanks to all of you for your support, and for your good thoughts and prayers and mantras for Lhamo's benefit.
I hope I don't have to do this a lot. Very Happy It was kind of like having a baby antelope, living in the lions den. Rolling Eyes Laughing

I'm kinda hoping for a little pile of acorns on the doorstep. Laughing Laughing (I'm not, actually. I gave him a stern lecture about avoiding cats, while we were on our way to be released.) Cat

Hah!!

I would have loved to have seen your face if he'd replied -
*Squeaky voice* "Gotcha lady, no more kitty playing for me!"

Oh, honey, you don't know how goofy I am, with animals. I had a black bear in my yard a few years ago, and I just started walking up to my door, anyhow. I started talking to him, like he was one of the cats. He took off, as fast as his chubby legs could carry him.
If Lhamo had started talking to me, I probably would have just assumed that Guru Rinpoche or Mother Tara were trying to tell me something. Laughing Then he would have never gotten released, and I would have found a way to keep him in the house. I don't know, a gerbil/hamster cage or summat.
Yes, I am just that goofy. My parents kept blaming me on the other parent, when I went to get their carrier. ("She's your daughter. I don't know about you.")
Seriously, though, I do think that's my Dharma purpose, as well. To deal with the animals. I'm not so good with humans, but animals, whole 'nother story.

Arghhhhh! You mean one of those big bears like on that film with John Candy/Dan Ackroyd - The Great Outdoors????

I have always had one way conversations with animals, I recently got "caught" talking to a seafull on the beach and felt a right nana.

I also got caught talking to a huge oak tree a couple of weeks ago - I just wanted to know how magnificent he was and I named him "Henry" as it seemed to suit him - King Henry and all that...........

Hmmmm, maybe your Dharma purpose is to learn how to deal with people.....or understand yourself better......to understand others more.

It is amazing how many people I have come across that can express their feelings of affection with animals and yet cannot do so with people - I am one of them. Animals don't judge. I tell Oscar I love him daily and hug him constantly but I would never dare to do that with a human being, that would be far too dangerous; judgement is ever near and I am still dismantling my brick wall, brick, by brick.

I don't see you as goofy, I see you as having a kind heart, combined with the courage the do something, and the intelligence to put it into action, it makes for one compassionate lady!

You carry on, you are doing a grand job. Clapping

Have a nice weekend everyone if I don't speak to you again before hand........

I don't believe that exposure to the Dharma is supposed to be limited to humans. Lama Zopa doesn't either. And I do my bit for humans, in conversations and just everyday life. But I've long believed that I have attachment disorder. And at 41, I'm okay with that. I work with what I have, which is a real heart for animals. If I can help them have a more beneficial rebirth, and lessen their suffering in this go 'round, that makes me happy.
I know that I can't help all of them, so I try to do what I can for the ones I can help. In my opinion, not enough is done to help the other sentient beings. As if humans were more worthy than the others. As Yoda says, "No, no different. Only in your mind different." A mindstream is a mindstream is a mindstream. Today's human is tomorrow's mosquito. Or tree frog. And, vice versa.
So, your gift is humans and their suffering. And good on you for helping with that. Good Job But it's not my gift. I have a hard enough time just trying to see humanity with equanimity. In my current profession (retail,) that's an everyday challenge.

Of course not, who do we think we are anyway?

But whatever we have difficulty with, that is the dharma right there.....
Just waiting for us to work it through........I have no gift by the way, I just live to learn.
